The TN Sustainability Conference will offer the Solid Waste Association of North America’s (SWANA) training preparation course, Integrated Solid Waste Management. Testing is separate.
Training event dates are:
Monday, August 18th, 2025, through Wednesday, August 20th, 2025.
The class will be held in Mountain View Room A at The Park Vista Hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday classes will start promptly at 8:00 a.m. E.D.T. until approximately 5:00 p.m. E.S.T. each day. There will be time allowed for breaks and lunch on your own. The certification exam for those interested and registered in advance will be online. There is an additional fee for the certification exam and SWANA membership fees.
All the scholarships are full.
Scholarships:
There is a very limited number of training scholarships for this event. If you are interested in receiving a scholarship, please fill the form out below stating your desire to participate and your need for a scholarship. You must be a TRC member to apply for the scholarship.
If you do not receive a scholarship, the class cost is $450.00. You can register for the class on the registration page. The test is not included. You will be responsible for paying for the testing fees on your own and more info can be found here on the SWANA website.

The TN Training Academy and TRC will give priority to those with no previous professional certifications and then by date and time of request received on a first come first serve basis. Some agencies may restrict scholarships to local government professionals only or some agencies may require you to be a member.
If you receive a scholarship for this class, you must still register for the TNSC conference if you plan to attend the conference for $400. TRC and TNSC is not liable for any payment for the test after you take this class. Please look up your own testing fees on the National SWANA website.

SWANA’s Managing Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems is designed to improve the knowledge of individuals who manage municipal solid waste management systems, this course addresses the many and varied duties of the solid waste system manager. Concepts such as planning, developing, and managing solid waste systems are discussed. This course is intended for current and future managers and operators of government solid waste management systems and other industry professionals who may work in an advisory or consulting capacity with municipal waste managers.
